Bratislava Bistros & Cafes

It might seem that in Bratislava there isn’t an establishment that serves only as a bookshop. Instead, every bookstore has a coffee shop inside. Urban Space is no exception. This lovely oasis, where you can immerse yourself in reading while sipping some of the best coffee in town and disconnecting from the urban jungle all around you, is located right in the heart of old town. You will find it on Namestie SNP, just a few minutes’ walk from the city center and a 10-minute walk from the Danube River.

Come to Urban Space to meet your friends or solo for a delicious light meal. Try one of their home-made lemonades, granola with thick Greek yogurt and fresh strawberries, hot chocolate, raspberry punch, or a tasty cake. Pick a book from the open shelves and read it while enjoying your treat. This coffeehouse has a particular ambience for which it has become very popular among the locals as well as tourists. Once you walk in, you will want to stay for hours in this cozy place. The combination of modern architecture, wooden tables and rusty elements creates a laid-back atmosphere. There are diverse lamps here: from simple light bulbs hanging from the ceiling to enormously big lamps and chandeliers made from empty bottles. You can choose to sit in tuli bean bags, colorful old-style chairs, various fur stools or a big sofa with many cushions in the middle of the space. The interior has a great style and is packed with books in huge white bookshelves all around and every table has an electricity outlet so you can charge your phone and in the tastefully decorated restrooms you can write the title of your favorite book on an empty spine. There is a small stage next to one of their wide windows, with a few tables. It’s a hot spot as you get to watch what’s going on outside, plus it’s lovely to sit by the window mainly in the evening with dim lighting, relaxing music and exceptionally upbeat and friendly service. Stepping inside is like moving to a different world within the center of Bratislava, Urban Space is actually more than a cafe and bookstore, it’s an institution!
