Just in time for Christmas, readers can now hold in their hands the new print special issue of the lifestyle magazine published under the Svoboda & Williams brand, the theme of which is art. Its creators unveiled it at the studio of designer Jan Plecháč as part of the 9th Studio Visit art event.
The gathering at the studio in Vršovice of one of the most distinctive Czech contemporary designers was the ultimate ode to creativity. This topic is the focus of the latest issue of the Selected magazine, bringing inspiring stories that will keep your spirits bright during the coming holiday season. Strewn throughout the pages are profiles of the up-and-coming Czech designer Jiří Krejčiřík, the painter Pavel Příkaský, or the star of the Mexican art world Bosco Sodi.
“A real treat is our friend and collaborator Martina Lowe’s interview with the modern genius of fashion and portrait photography David Bailey. One of the biggest icons in the history of photography, Bailey’s career was launched by his black and white portraits of the movie stars and famous musicians of the 1960s, which even those who know nothing about art have surely seen,” says Editor-in-Chief Tomáš Otta. “It may be trite to say that art is a window to the soul, but David Bailey uses this window to leave you breathless.”
The current art director of the Moser glassworks, Jan Plecháč, has an extraordinary talent that finds a wide range of expression. His Era vase graces the cover page of Selected by Svoboda & Williams and was designed as an homage to the master glassmaker Zdeněk Drobný when he received the French honor of Order of Arts and Letters. “My goal was for the piece to reflect the interconnection of the previous and future generations and thereby create a bridge between an illustrious past and Moser’s bright prospects,” said the designer. In the interview that is part of this issue, he speaks about his ambitions for Moser, but also about humility, softness, and perceptiveness, ingredients that are necessary to his visions and plans.
